Anti Wrinkle Injections Q&A

  1. What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name for the most popular botulinum toxin (type A) in the market. Botolinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is a prescription medicine that is injected in to the muscles.

  1. Are there different types of toxin products?

Yes there are a few botulinum toxins available in the UK.

  1. What product is used for my treatment at The Beautiful Truth?

We will use the BOTOX Cosmetic brand by Allergan which is the only neuro toxin brand to receive approval of aesthetic indications beyond the frown lines. It is the most widely researched and studied treatment of its kind, approved for use in 96 countries. The safety and efficacy of BOTOX® Cosmetic has been described in more than 495 peer-reviewed articles in scientific and medical journals. It is the market leader with about 90% of the treatment targeting the upper face.

  1. What is it used for?

Botox is approved to be used for a variety of reasons like headaches, bladder problems, some muscle problems, excessive sweating as well as to improve the look of moderate to severe facial wrinkles. At The Beautiful Truth, we can treat a wide variety of concerns with Anti Wrinkle Injections like your frown line, forehead lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, smoker’s lines, pebbled chin, droopy mouth corners, gummy smile, turkey neck, teeth grinding/jaw reduction and excessive sweating.

  1. What does it do to wrinkles?

Anti Wrinkle Injections can be used to treat all wrinkles which are the result of normal facial movement. When it is injected into a specific muscle in the face, it blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscle. This means that the nerve ending cannot tell the muscle to move, hence there will be less wrinkling of the skin in the areas treated. You will have a smooth appearance than before. So in simple terms, Anti Wrinkle Injections help to relax the muscles being treated.

  1. Who will give me Anti Wrinkle Injections at The Beautiful Truth? Is he/she medically qualified and insured?

You will always be treated by Dr Pri who is an experienced medical doctor trained in aesthetics. He has over 15 years’ experience working for the NHS and private practice across the UK. He is qualified from leading aesthetic institutions to carry out basic, advanced and masterclass techniques for facial rejuvenation. He is also fully insured to carry out aesthetic procedures. He has performed over 200 aesthetic procedures so you are in safe hands!

  1. What will happen in my Anti Wrinkle Injection appointment at The Beautiful Truth?

When you initially make the appointment, we will send you some instructions on how to prepare for the appointment. For example, we will ask you to avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours prior to the procedure.

Once at the Clinic, first you will be greeted and handed over the registration and medical form.

Then the doctor will go the form with you and check your suitability for the procedure.

You can then discuss what your concerns are and what you want to achieve and ask any questions you have.

He will then assess your face, take some photos before the procedure for insurance purposes.

You will be looked after by his assistant, Priya, who will make sure any make up is removed and the area is cleansed.

Then the doctor will mark the areas in your face and then the assistant will apply some ice before the procedure to minimise bruising and pain.

Then you will have the Anti Wrinkle Injection. Ice will be applied during the procedure too and you will be kept comfortable throughout.

Once it’s over, we will apply some arnica gel to further minimise any bruising.

You will be given Aftercare advice and make sure you understand everything.

  1. Is the procedure painful?

No! It will just feel like some tiny pinches and it will be over before you know it. When correctly injected, it should not be painful.

  1. How long does the procedure take?

The procedure itself only takes less than 15 minutes. But your appointment is for half an hour so you can have the consultation and discuss needs and prepare for the appointment fully and the procedure will never be rushed.

  1. How long does it take to recover from the procedure?

There is no recovery time for Botox but there are few things you need to do to look after yourself a few hours after. We will provide you with the Aftercare information and explain everything you need to do.

  1. Do I feel any different after having Anti Wrinkle Injections?

No, but you may feel the area been treated a little tighter than before but in a good way.

  1. What are the side effects?

Anti Wrinkle Injections are relatively safe but there are minor side effects like headaches, pain, swelling and bruising at the injection site for some people. Most of these should only last a few hours or a few days. Most people have no side effects at all. To minimise bruising, we advise clients to avoid alcohol and certain vitamins and drugs and also apply ice and arnica on the day of the procedure.

  1. How long will the results last?

The results will last for 3-4 months usually but depend on your life style and metabolic factors. For some people it may last longer.

  1. Will I look unnatural and fake?

No. BOTOX is a technique-sensitive treatment it will deliver subtle results when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained, and a medical expert in facial anatomy. You will look like yourself but a few years younger and refreshed if anything with less visible wrinkles.

  1. Will my wrinkles be worse if I don’t do it again?

No. The wrinkles will just go back to how they were originally. So there are no negative effects if you don’t keep up with it or stop having it.

  1. Are there any long term effects of having Anti Wrinkle Injections?

The effects of Anti Wrinkle Injections are temporary and there are no major long term effects that have been studied extensively. Usually most require less product overtime for maintenance as the muscles weaken over time. A clinical study in 2015 has shown that the treatment will be more effective if used repeatedly. However if you have it too regularly before it is due within 3 months, you may develop resistance to it. So it is important you get your treatment done as prescribed by your cosmetic doctor.

  1. What age is the best to start having Botox?

We will only treat people over 18 years of age. Some people use it as a preventative measure for wrinkling but we recommend that you only get treated when you have wrinkles and you can gauge its effectiveness better that way.

  1. Can anyone have Botox?

No. You always need to go through a medical questionnaire with a professional to check the suitability of the procedure before you can be prescribed Botox.

  1. Can I just come for a consultation?

Yes, at The Beautiful Truth, we offer free no obligation consultations so you can discuss all your concerns and check suitability. You can then take your time to think whether to go ahead with having the procedure or not.

  1. How much does it cost?

The price depends on the number of areas being treated. The frown line is counted as one area, so is crow’s feet on both eyes. To treat the upper face three areas, which is the most popular treatment we do, you will be treated for the frown line, forehead lines and crow’s feet. That treatment will cost you £280. In addition, if you also want to get your bunny lines treated for example, you pay an extra £50. The price list can be seen on the website booking system. If in doubt, please contact our front of house team who will be happy to answer any queries.

Aqualyx Q&A

1. What is AQUALYX?

Aqualyx is developed for the non-surgical reduction of localized stubborn fat pockets under the skin. It is an injectable, gel-based aqueous solution, which dissolves fat and is biocompatible and biodegradable.

2. How does Aqualyx work?

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections are a specially-formulated compound solution which is injected by a specially trained doctor into the problem area. It works by attaching to fatty deposits, breaking them down over time. The fat is then naturally dissolved and flushed out by the body. Results are effective, quick, and minimally invasive.

3. Which areas can be treated using Aqualyx?

Aqualyx Fat Dissolving Injections can be used to treat almost all small deposits of fat, but the most popular treatment areas are on the chin, thigh, hips, arm, and stomach.

4. Who will treat me at The Beautiful Truth? Is he/she medically qualified and insured?

You will always be treated by Dr Pri who is an experienced medical doctor trained in aesthetics. He has over 15 years’ experience working for the NHS and private practice across the UK. You will be given Aftercare advice and make sure you understand everything.

Once you have had your treatment the areas injected may be slightly red and there will also be some swelling which will subside a couple of days after treatment.

6. Does Aqualyx treatment hurt?

There will be some discomfort while injecting but if needed, can add lidocaine (an anesthetic) to the AQUALYX solution so that the two are injected together to minimize discomfort.

The appointment will take about one hour but this can differ depending on the area of treatment.

8. How long does it take to recover from the procedure?

Results are fast but it’s recommended to have between two and five sessions to see a significant effect. Treatment for fat pockets underneath the neck and chin, for example, may require 1 – 3 treatments, while treatment for fat pockets on the hips and thighs may require about 8 treatments.

10. When is the treatment with AQUALYX not recommended?

AQUALYX is not recommended when the patient is suffering from acute or chronic skin disease in the affected area. For safety reasons all patients with a medical history including anaphylactic reactions, severe allergies, severe organic or physical illnesses, autoimmune disease or diabetes, as well as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are excluded from any treatment with AQUALYX.

11. Are there any side effects? People treated with AQUALYX will typically experience minimal side effects when compared to more invasive procedures, such as liposuction. Side effects include some redness, swelling and tenderness in the treated area. All these are expected side effects that will settle within either a few days or weeks depending on how you react to it. The manufacturers report that to date no major side effects of AQUALYX use have been reported to them.

12. Can I just come for a consultation?

Yes, we offer free no obligation consultations so you can discuss all your concerns and check suitability. You can then take your time to think whether to go ahead with having the procedure or not.

14. Are there any after-care instructions?

After your treatment we will again go through with you any after care advice in order to maximise your treatment benefits and avoid any undesirable side effects.

You can resume normal activities, drive yourself home or return to work immediately after the treatment.

Profhilo Q&A

1. What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is the first BDDE-free stabilised injectable hyaluronic acid (HA) based product for treating skin laxity. With one of the highest concentrations of HA on the market, it is not only boosting and hydrating the skin, but also remodels the ageing and sagging tissue. Profhilo delivers great results as a treatment on its own or in combination with other aesthetics treatments currently on offer.

2. How does Profhilo work?

As a stabilised product Profhilo lasts in the skin around 28 days. During this time the stimulation of 4 different types of collagen and elastin takes place by slow release of HA. The stimulation results in significant tissue improvement. Perhaps it is best-described as a ‘bio-rejuvenator’, ‘bio-revitaliser’ or ‘tissue-stimulator’ and these terms are catching on as aesthetic medicine moves in a new direction.

3. What are the advantages of having Profhilo?

Profhilo® is capable of stimulating your natural production of all four types of collagen and elastin – these vital substances which are lost from the skin as we age. It has been reported that from the age of about twenty, each year we lose around 1% of the collagen and elastin from our skin tissue. As a result of this gradual depletion, the skin becomes thinner and as the time goes by it has less and less of its youthful ‘bounce’. So it is accurate to say that it can effectively cure certain kinds of wrinkles from within the skin, by boosting and utilising your natural processes giving the skin a more youthful look. It provides hydration to the skin especially in the epidermis (the Hydro effect).

4. Who will give me Profhilo at the clinic? Is he/she medically qualified and insured?

You will always be treated by Dr Pri who is an experienced medical doctor trained in aesthetics. He has over 15 years’ experience working for the NHS and private practice across the UK. He is qualified from leading aesthetic institutions to carry out basic, advanced and masterclass techniques for facial rejuvenation.

5. What is my Profhilo appointment like at The Beautiful Truth?

When you initially make the appointment, we will send you some instructions on how to prepare for the appointment. For example, we will ask you to avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours prior to the procedure.

Once at the Clinic, first you will be greeted and handed over the registration and medical form.

Then the doctor will go through the form with you and check your suitability for the procedure.

You can then discuss what your concerns are and what you want to achieve and ask any questions you have.

He will then assess your face, take some photos before the procedure.

You will be looked after by his assistant, Priya, who will make sure any make up is removed and the area is cleansed.

Then the doctor will inject the product using very fine needles in five specific points on the face that Profhilo call the Bio Aesthetic Points (BAPs). You will be given numbing cream to ease the discomfort.

The BAP technique is seen as the optimum method for placement of the HA for the lower face. It allows the treatment to be effective and simple, reducing the chance of pain, bruising or haematoma at the injection site.

Once injected, the product immediately starts spreading due to the high concentration of HA and its cohesive nature. It flows and distributes itself evenly, rather than remaining where it is placed, naturally and without resistance integrating within your skin’s existing tissue.

6. Is the procedure painful?

Not painful but can be slightly uncomfortable.

7. Which areas are treatable with Profhilo®?

Profhilo® is especially effective at treating loose skin in the face, neck and jowls as well as other areas usually considered difficult to treat with injectable products, such as hands & upper arms.

8. How long does the procedure take?

The procedure itself only takes less than 20 minutes. But your appointment is for 45 minutes, so you can have the consultation and discuss needs and prepare for the appointment fully and the procedure will never be rushed.

9. How long does it take to recover from the procedure?

There is no recovery time for Profhilo as such however, the product is injected in small deposits, you may be able to see them initially but they settle usually within hours. It may be possible to feel the product where it has been injected under the skin. It will settle and there is no need to massage. We will provide you with the Aftercare information and explain everything you need to do.

10. What are the side effects?

Side effects will only be mild and redness that appear for some time such as erythema (redness), pain, itching, discolouration or tenderness at the injection site. The doctor will explain things in detail at the consultation.

11. How long will the results last?

You should notice the results of the treatment – increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of your skin – lasting around six months.

However, other factors can affect the results, including the degree of correction needed, your age and lifestyle and your skin’s natural ageing process.

12. How many treatments will I need?

For most patients, we recommend an initial course of two treatment sessions, with an interval of one month between sessions. We may then recommend top-up and maintenance sessions, depending on your body’s response to the initial treatment.

13. Can I just come for a consultation?

Yes, at The Beautiful Truth we offer free no obligation consultations so you can discuss all your concerns and check suitability. You can then take your time to think whether to go ahead with having the procedure or not.

14. How much does it cost?

At The Beautiful Truth, the cost for one session is £285. (except for both inner arms, it is £570)

Dermal Filler Q&A

  1. What are dermal fillers?

Dermal Fillers are a very popular injectable treatment to fill folds and wrinkles and re-volumise the mid and lower face. Dermal fillers we use are hyaluronic-acid based. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in every individual and this is what causes us to look plump and youthful when we are young. As the ageing process takes effect your collagen starts to break down which can leave you looking tired. Re- introducing the hyaluronic acid using the dermal filler treatment can plump out deep skin folds.

  1. How do dermal fillers work?

The basic principle of dermal fillers is the signs of skin ageing is reduced due to the ‘plumping’ effect on the skin. Although slightly different desired effects can be achieved with the use of different fillers, all results achieve a more youthful and refreshed appearance in the hands of a competent practitioner.

The technical bit:

The epidermis and the dermis make up the two layers of the skin. The epidermis is the outer layer and functions as a barrier against the environment to protect against the elements and to regulate moisture loss from tissues and cells.

Directly below the epidermis sits the dermis. This contains structural elements of the skin, such as blood vessels, nerves and hair follicles. The dermis contains collagen and this provides the skin with elasticity and strength to support the skin. With age, the epidermis gradually thins providing less protection to the dermis layer. Added to this, production of collagen slows significantly and the existing collagen becomes less effective.

The consequence is an increase in the presence of wrinkles, folds, depressions and other associated signs of ageing. Dermal fillers act as a replenishment for the natural collagen which has been left ineffective through the ageing process and reverses the appearance of line and wrinkles through adding volume and increased hydration.

  1. Which areas can be treated using dermal fillers?

The common areas that the dermal filler treatment can be applied are: Lips (border and body)

Cheeks (filling and contouring) Tear trough (under eye hollows)

Nose to mouth lines (nasolabial) Mouth to chin lines (Marionette) Down-turned corners of the mouth Chin

Nose Smoker’s lines Hands

  1. Who will treat me at The Beautiful Truth? Is he/she medically qualified and insured?

You will always be treated by Dr Pri who is an experienced medical doctor trained in aesthetics. He has over 15 years’ experience working for the NHS and private practice across the UK. He is qualified from leading aesthetic institutions to carry out basic, advanced and masterclass techniques for facial rejuvenation. He is also fully insured to carry out aesthetic procedures.

  1. What is my Dermal filler appointment like at The Beautiful Truth?

When you initially make the appointment, we will send you some instructions on how to prepare for the appointment. For example, we will ask you to avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours prior to the procedure.

Once at the Clinic, first you will be greeted and handed over the registration and medical form. Then the doctor will go the form with you and check your suitability for the procedure.

You can then discuss what your concerns are and what you want to achieve and ask any questions you have.

He will then assess your face, take some photos before the procedure.

You will be looked after by his assistant, Priya, who will make sure any make up is removed and the area is cleansed. The doctor may mark some areas in your face.

Before your treatment topical anesthetic cream will be applied to the areas which you will be having the dermal fillers to numb the skin and minimise any pain. Then the injection will take place and you will be applied ice by the assistant to minimize bruising and pain. We will do our best to keep you comfortable.

Once it’s over, we will apply some arnica gel to further minimise any bruising.

You will be given Aftercare advice and make sure you understand everything.

Once you have had your treatment the areas injected may be slightly red and there will also be some swelling which will subside a couple of days after treatment.

  1. Do dermal fillers hurt?

There will be some discomfort while injecting the fillers but as explained above, you will have numbing cream applied and most fillers now come with lidocaine (anesthetic ingredient) inside. We also apply ice to keep you comfortable. Some areas of the face may be more sensitive than others and it will also depend on your pain threshold. The lips cane be extremely sensitive and as such cause most discomfort. However, in general it may not hurt as much as you thought it would! It may help you go to an experienced injector too.

  1. How long does it take to do?

The appointment will take about 45 minutes to an hour but this can differ depending on where you are having the dermal filler treatment and how much.

  1. How long does it take to recover from the procedure?

It varies with the patient and treatment areas but in general you can expect about one to two days. We advise you not to book your filler appointment not too close to any special occasion. Please discuss this with the practitioner.

There are a few things you need to do to look after yourself post procedure We will provide you with the Aftercare information and explain everything you need to do.

  1. When will I see the results?

Results are seen instantly after the treatment with dermal fillers, although this gradually improves over the course of the following 2–4 weeks.

  1. How long will the results last?

This will vary depending on the individual and the area treated; however generally speaking the dermal fillers last around 6-9 months in lips and 12-18 months in cheeks. This can also differ on the area treated and your body metabolism, your skin condition, lifestyle etc. for example- the nose is static compared to the lips meaning the dermal fillers will break down quicker in the lip area.

  1. Which brands of dermal fillers do we use?

We only use the market-leading dermal filler brands in the UK. We use products from Juvederm, Tesosyal, Restylane and Revolax and you can discuss the needs with the practitioner and he will choose the best one for the required treatment and your budget.

  1. Are there any side effects?

Following the procedure, there may be some slight tenderness and occasionally there may be some bruising at the injection site, however these symptoms will improve quickly. In the lips, you may experience swelling for a short period of time after the procedure. We recommend that any vigorous activity or exercise is avoided for the first 24-48 hours following the procedure. You need to follow the Aftercare Advice that will be given to you.

  1. How many syringes of filler will I need?

This will vary according to area being treated and the expected outcome. For a standard filler around the mouth or lip filler appointment, one syringe would be adequate. If you are looking for a more obvious result, or perhaps are having a larger area treated, there is the chance that you may require more than one syringe, so we do recommend bearing this is mind when considering the total treatment cost. You may discuss this with the practitioner during the consultation.

  1. Can anyone have dermal fillers?

No. You always need to go through a medical questionnaire with a professional to check the suitability of the procedure before you have the treatment.

  1. Can I just come for a consultation?

Yes, at The Beautiful Truth, we offer free no obligation consultations so you can discuss all your concerns and check suitability. You can then take your time to think whether to go ahead with having the procedure or not.

  1. How much does it cost?

The price depends on the number of syringes, the type of filler you choose. The price list can be seen on the website booking system. If in doubt, please contact The Beautiful Truth who will be happy to answer any queries.

  1. Are there any after-care instructions?

After your treatment we will again go through with you any after care advice in order to maximise your treatment benefits and avoid any undesirable side effects.

You can resume normal activities, drive yourself home or return to work immediately after the treatment.
